I missed you…
Hot bubble baths. With candles, music, a glass of wine and a good book
I will miss you not…
Cold showers. Except for on the Carribean coast where even the sea was as hot as a warm bath and I craved a cold shower.
I missed you…
Blue cheese. Cheddar, Brie, Camembert and Caerphilly. Red Leicester, Stilton and Double Gloucester.
I will miss you not…
Arepas. A staple food form in Colombia made from maize. Yuck yuck and yuck
I missed you…
My friends and family. Thank goodness for Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and Facebook
I will miss you not…
Cockroaches. Enuff said!
I missed you…
A hot spicy mouth-burning, nose running Madras curry
I will miss you not…
The stomach churning smell of chicken hearts roasting on barbeques in the streets of Peru
I missed you…
The simple yet hauntingly beautiful sound of a blackbird at dawn or a robin
I will miss you not…
Vultures. Hooded, sinister and ever watchful I always feel as if they have a sixth sense that I am about to keel over and I will be their next meal
I miss you South America
Hi Jane,
I totally agree with Family & friends, that is what I miss most when I travel for a longer period of time (our RTW in 2007 for one year or now 5 months Asia). Especially having a more in depth discussion as just: where are you from and where have you been?
I also agree on food you like but no longer find (at a reasonable price) while traveling… Cheese is one, and that is a French guy speaking 😉
The others are of course personal 😉 But the 2 above I clearly do miss them…
Cheers
Gilles
Hi Gilles. There were very few things that I truly missed as I embraced my new life an experiences, I have been back in the UK for 5 weeks now and finding it very strange at how quickly I have adapted back and how distant my time away already seems.
Did you always intend to return to travel after your RTW trip?
Jane
Hi Jane,
Impressing that your return is so easy… To me it was like hell, and the everyday routine and going back to work seemed so senseless and useless!
It was clear that after our RTW I would eventually go back traveling one day… It took 6 years to make the move.
Cheers
Gilles
Oh that bit would not be easy but I am planning to be off again very soon. Aiming for South East Asia next
